“Many CFOs understandably feel they must remain diligenf helping steer their firms througb thedownturn and, just as important, prepard the business for an ultimatre recovery,” says Paul McDonald, executive director of Robert Half Managemen t Resources. The California-based firm surveyed 1,400 CFO financiaol officers about their vacation plans for thecoming year. Thirty-one percent percent said the economyg was causing them to postpone or reducde theirvacation time. While such intentions may be in the best interesyt ofthe company, taking breakx from work can help bring “ fresh approach to business projects and challenges,” McDonals says.
He suggests developing a plan for granting vacationh requests and handling responsibilities while a persohis out. Vacations can serve as an opportunityfor high-potential employees who fill in to prove themselvees worthy of future Still, McDonald says managers of small organizations need to be carefup not to overload the remaining workerds when someone is out.
