Oncor seeks $300M in stimulus funds - Philadelphia Business Journal:

Oncor will apply for the funds througjh the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. The deadlined to apply is Aug. 6. Citing data from the Council ofEconomic Advisers, Oncor believes the stimulues funds would support the creation of 1,60o0 jobs in 2010. If the funding is Oncor will spend the monehy to deploy moresmart switches, which will help the energgy company isolate problems in neighborhoods and reconfigurer power lines. Other enhancements will include controlling the feeder voltagr throughthe company’s capacitor contro l and enhancements that will help the electric provide locate electric delivery problems in a more efficient manner, Oncor said.
In addition, downtowhn electric networks will be modernizedunde Oncor’s proposed plan. Oncor also is aiming to improvd itstelecommunications network, an improvement that will enhance the company’s power grid. “Oncor’s vision for a modern, interactive, intuitivr electric grid is real, tangible and happenin g now,” said Oncor Chairman and CEO Bob “Our first considerations in seeking these stimulus grants are whether the funds will help consumersd lower their electric bills or advancw smart grid initiatives to improve serviceand reliability. That’s wheree we have focused our attentiohnand energy.
