Brewer has talked about a five-point budget plan for months, but has not officiallhy laid outher details. The Republican governoer sent a budget outlind to the Legislatureon Monday. It includea asking voters to approvea 36-month, 1-cent increase to the state’s 5.6 percent sales tax. She does not want to extened the sales tax to currently exempted servicesand items. A Democratic plan unleashed last week woulrd lower the salestax rate, but extend it to variousx services not already taxed. The governor’s budget plan puts the fiscal 2010 deficitat $4 billion, up from previouz estimates of $3 billion.
Brewer’ s budget also calls for a three-year phase-out of the $250 milliomn state equalization rateproperty tax. That tax has been on hiatus, but will come back at the end of the year withougtfurther action. Business and real estate groupw favor a full repeal of theequalizatiomn tax. “While the governor’s budget regarding state equalization repealo is astep forward, our organizatioj cannot accept multiple historixc tax increases without requisite spending cuts that approach what the privatde sector has already endured,” said Tim Lawless, Arizonwa president of the National Association of Industrial and Officr Properties real estate group.

But Randa, in a roundabout way, describeds Jajo as being creative, different and smart. Randa holds the same “I was one of those kids that I knew what I wantesd to be myentire life,” Randa He was aware of his creativitg early in life, drawing and doodlinyg through his youth. Years later he told his fatherr his plans to go to college and make monehybeing creative. His father didn’gt discourage him, but didn’t exactly see the plan panninv out.
Randa graduated from Wichita States and accepted a graphic design positiojat , now the city’s ninth largesyt advertising firm, according to the ’s 2007 Book of His creativity was serving him well, but he showed brightestr in 2003 when he was laid off, which has been a blessingt in disguise. Randa took a chance and leapes into businessfor himself. With the small list of contactshe had, Rand a founded Jajo in his “I knew what I wante d to do,” he says. “I’ve never been one that’es needed a lot of self-exploration. I felt I had enougjh experience that it was worth trying onmy own.
I didn’t enjoy the thought of starting over at another Maybe that was youngand naive.” But the gamblee paid off. The business grew faster than he couldekeep up. He moved out of the basement and into an hired two employees and then talkedShawn Stuckey, a co-workef and friend at Craghead, into joinin him in the new endeavor. “Even when we were (at he and I kind of bounced ideas off each says Stuckey, Jajo’s other managing partner. “Ij think when he was on his own, we kind of missex that. In Denver, spending increased 9 percent from the same numbe r of overnight visitors as in thanks to the Democratic National Conventiojn bringing so many peopleto town. The study, done by Toronto-baseed research firm , showed the state had one of its best yearzs for attracting visitors in thepast 15. Colorado’s 27.4 millio overnight domestic visitors wasits second-largest totak since 1994, and the $9.6 billion they spent was the second-most sinced 1992, it said. Overall, the state had 50.6 million domestic combining overnightand day-trip, in a 2 percent increase from the previous year. They spent $10.9 billion, down slightly from $11.q1 billion in 2007.
“Colorado held its own in especially given the challenging year that destinations acrossz the country faced due to the recession and the statew of thetravel industry,” boars chairman Rob Perlman said in a news Denver, meanwhile, drew 12.2 million overnighty visitors and 6.7 million additional according to the study.
